Chair

Could you be the new Chair of the Thirsk & District Business Association?

The Thirsk & District Business Association has been an established organisation since 1928 (previously the old Chamber of Trade) and has a long and distinguished history of involvement in the business community in the Thirsk area. The T&DBA has members from all types of business sectors including retail, commercial, professional and industrial businesses within the community.

The Business Association is made up of two parts – the business focused side and the Thirsk Ladies Group (our fundraising group who put on events throughout the year to raise money for the Christmas lights in Thirsk). Many people may know this group as the Christmas In Thirsk group.

One of the main areas of focus over recent years has been to create a relaxed networking group, for members and non-members to build relationships and create a stronger economy for the area.

We also began and still produce the Keep It Local Magazine – a low-cost advertising publication for local businesses and members, distributed to over 11,000 homes and businesses within the YO7 area.

Throughout the years, the T&DBA has worked closely with our local town & district council, together with wider organisations such as the Local Enterprise Partnership and the FSB. One of the main aims of the T&DBA is to promote Thirsk and the strong business community.

chair

Our current Chairman, Guy Baragwanath has been in the role for over 12 years and is looking to step down as chair this Summer. Currently Thirsk is at a new and exciting stage of development and we are looking for a new Chairperson to be at the forefront of these changes.

The role will cover a number of areas including:

  • Being the link between the local businesses and external organisations such as town & district councils
  • Help in overseeing the running of the association
  • Working with social media, website and radio to help promote the town
  • Updating the membership list and ensuring members are up to date with their membership payments

If you think you have what it takes to become chair and be the spokesperson for our local business community, working behind the scenes alongside our business partners we want to hear from you. To find out more about the Chairperson role please get in touch. Please note, this is a volunteer role.
