Our Thirsk Business Member in the Spotlight for November 2022 is Abigail Homer from The Therapy Room Thirsk

1. When did you start your business?

I started it on a very part time basis in 2017 but have turned it into full time in October 2022.

2. What led you to start a business/how did it all begin?

I started it as a relaxing hobby when work and life were stressful. Over the two years of training, I needed lots of friends and family to practice on. Many of them were very disappointed when I qualified as I no longer needed guinea pigs so they persuaded me to turn it into a business. I had worked for a local charity for almost 20 years and made the hard decision to leave this summer to run The Therapy Room full time. I am currently training to be a counsellor and hypnotherapist which I hope will add to the services I currently offer.

3. What do you like about Thirsk?

I love the community spirit of this little town; so many wonderful people giving their time for someone else’s benefit.

4. What is your most popular product/service?

‘The Medley’ is by far my most popular massage; it’s the best bits of all my massages rolled into one.

5. What other local business do you support?

I try really hard to support local businesses.

6. What is the best part of your job?

When clients say ‘Can I just stay on the bed for a few more minutes?’ and the look of relaxation on their face.

7. What is the best piece of advice you would offer a new business in Thirsk?

Look for a gap in the market and be the best you can.

8. Fun/amazing fact about your business that people might not know?

80% of clients have rebooked before leaving the building.

9. Favourite book/famous person that inspires you?

Cinderella ‘Give the girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world’.

10. In what ways have you had to adapt your business in this current climate? I’m so new that I haven’t yet
