Thirsk independent traders have collaborated to create a their very own ‘Christmas in Thirsk’ video on social media, a spoof of the Visa UK Christmas advert, featuring local shopkeepers singing along to the Mariah Carey song ‘All I Want For Christmas is You’. The commercial is a rallying cry to the community to shop local in the run up to Christmas.
Richard Gladstone of the Connection Gallery Thirsk, said “I really like the Visa UK Christmas Advert but when I saw it I thought “Thirsk can do better than that”, so I decided to round up a few indie traders in town to do the video.” He continued, “The video will be released on Friday 30th November at 4pm on Everything Thirsk facebook page. I am delighted that Thirsk business owners have been so enthusiastic about it, including TV’s ‘The Yorkshire Vet’ Peter Wright and there are some great shots of Thirsk Market Place”.
Ben Watson Productions and Matt Ainsworth took time off from working in the town to film and record the traders, it features Cherie White, Tidings Card Shop; Tim & Jo Roberts, Spectrum Framing; Victoria McEvoy The Three Tuns Antiques; Richard Gladstone, Connection Gallery; Sue Lake & Caroline Nicholls, White Rose BookCafe; Andrew & Sarah Trueman, Johnsons Butchers; Emma Simmons, Salon 54; Luke & Staff of Plenty; Jackie Lupton of Eufloria; Fiona at Thirsk Greengrocers with Jill Miller and Peter Wright.
The launch of this video on social media coincides with Small Business Saturday on December 1, that highlights small business success and encourages customers to support small businesses in their communities.
